Romeo & Juliet Fridge Poetry Contest
Get me ink and paper! From the verses of Verona to the meter of Mantua, check out the results of our Romeo & Juliet Fridge Poetry Contest. Entrants used a chopped-up book* of the play to produce their poems line by line. Here are some of our cast and crew's favourites. (Some folks got on our case about the poem descriptions, but we like them.)
Frank O'Leary's cheerful thoughts are a little saucy, but our voting cast and crew really enjoyed it saying, "Great imagery," "Excellent shift," "Repurposes phrases in a creative way."

T. Hernández-Ruiz wrote these shadows so rich in joy. Our voters appreciated the twist on marriage. Unabashed cynicism appreciated. "Good insights," suggested a twice-divorced stagehand. Have a look!

Lovely little entry from Irene Nelson of Evansville who was able to make up a show about someone's bad looks -- or not.

Nate Upton, last but not least, wowed us with his limits by writing a haiku! Meter is especially important in so few syllables. Believe us -- we tried and were discharged of breath. Enjoy Reading!

*Thank You, Newlines
We would especially like to thank Vi at Newlines Bookstore for the generous donation of the what sounded like sellable hard copies of Romeo & Juliet that our participants destroyed letter by letter!
Vi’s Contest
And there is some joyful news at hand. Vi graciously offers up a limited-edition copy of Romeo & Juliet to the winner of an additional contest.
Submit a poem to Vi at Newlines by June 24 (that is, 0624) using the words of Shakespeare. She just asks that you stick to only one scene and start your poem with the fourth letter of the second syllable of the sixth line of that scene. Easy enough!

(She is planning a similar spooky version of the contest for Halloween using the tenth line, third syllable, and first letter!)

Take up a copy and try some fridge poetry of your own! If you’re broken up about missing the contest, you can still hop in line. Then share your creations with us on social media!

Thanks to all who submitted poems! Our next contest is sure to be as fun as our last! This theatre family is sure we won’t have to search far for the next name in fridge poetry.
